Description

Hi there! My name is Aaron and I am one of two lead singers for a New Funk group that is seeking a new bass player to help us make funky, soulful, modern and classic music (covers and originals) for Social Media and eventually live performance. First for YouTube then graduating to gigging live. No pie in the sky expectations of success, just an opportunity to make something together which lasts.  As of now we have two vocalists (male/female), a drummer, and a guitarist and we are primarily looking for a new bassist for our funk soul project. We hope to bring a keyboardist and eventually bring in horn players. Our former Bassist ended up getting more heavily involved in a previously built project and sadly had to step back. Without a good bassist as the backbone, a funk project has no legs. We are regrouping and hoping to find someone who can bring their unique and funky sound to the group. Here is a YouTube Playlist of funky covers to popular songs and songs which fit the concept of what we are going for with this project. This is the kind of feel I would like to shoot for *eventually*. For now we would be happy to plant the seeds and see what happens. We are honestly trying to define our sound and picking songs which excite us to try and cover them in a unique way.  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGdlYW-Bmyl4fh4KoiVPzh5vWFW2_pDDz Current Songs we have begun to make our own funky covers of: Dog Days are Over - Florence and the Machine That's the Way Love Is - Marvin Gaye Somebody That I Used to Know - Gotye Can You Get to That- Funkadelic Our plan is to first perform some covers and then graduate to some originals which we write together. We want to create something our listeners would call "soulful funk". We like bands and collaborations that do cover songs in unique ways. It is a classic formula which has worked for countless artists for decades. People hear a tune that sounds good and kind of unique and then it dawns on them they know the song already, you're just doing it in a new and unique way. Suddenly they're singing along! At the same time I don't see the point in covering songs and trying to emulate or sound like the original artist unless the song really fits us like a glove and even then I want to bring our own spin to it. Why do it at all if you don't bring anything new to the table? I don't want to be "just a cover band". In recent years bands like Scary Pockets, Postmodern Jukebox, Lake Street Dive, even Jack White, and so many others have made this formula work for them. Also, artists like Scary Pockets, Postmodern Jukebox, Lawrence, Lake Street Dive, and Vulfpeck have also found success making intimate, almost behind the curtain, videos of them just performing live in their private studios or on fun sets. We want to start small with intimate duets and collaborations and then build up to something big with a full band. For the record, we have no Pie in the Sky expectations of "Going Viral". We just want to make music some people listen to. Could our efforts lead us to viral hits? Maybe? Lead us to gigging live? Much more likely! Could our efforts lead us to collaborating on writing original songs and posting them for our Moms to like and tell us we're special? We very much hope so. For now, We are seeking a few people to collaborate with and see where it goes. Must have: A desire to be part of something people see and your own equipment. When and Where? We are looking to rehearse once a week on either Thursday evenings like 7pm or so, or Saturday late mornings like 10am or so, for about 3 hours max. We are going to be rehearsing in a rehearsal space like Little Giant out in McKees Rocks at first until we get our own space up and running at out drummer's new house out in Mt Lebanon. The Big Idea: We will eventually plan to record video and audio of the sessions. Ideally we then collaborate with each other to go through the recordings, sift the gems from the dross and then throughout the week I cut and edit those clips into something worth posting before we get together the next week. We then review the video, discuss what we could do better for the next video and rinse and repeat. In the process we build a list of covers (which we will secure the rights to post videos of) and we eventually have a set list which we could perform out for local Pittsburgh gigs. We don't expect that any money will just come rolling in but if/when we do earn profits they are split equally and evenly between the group collaborators. In time this may mean we add another member who gets an even cut who exclusively does our live sound as they are often the most unsung hero of any band and deserve an equal cut, but that is a great problem to have because it means we are doing well enough to *need* such a sound person. Does all of this sound groovy to you? Personally I just want to be collaborating with musicians again and want to be producing something which sounds good together and lasts. The rest is gravy. In your reply, please tell me your name, your pronouns (this will be an LGBTQ+ safe creative environment), and please link any samples you have of yourself performing. (Video/Audio etc) and tell me about your current availability and musical experience. Send me a reply if you're interested and let's make some music together!
