On May 16, 2020 the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a building fire that made National and International headlines. The fire rapidly developed into a major emergency sending 11 LAFD Firefighters to the hospital with burn injuries. This event challenged the LAFD and changed the lives of the members that were on scene. Captains Victor Aguirre and Scott Barkley were the first due Officers on scene and will discuss the incident and the factors that challenged their situational awareness, critical decision- making process, training, and experience. They will also speak about their physical and mental healing process after the incident. This is a great presentation for your Department’s Wellness and Peer Support teams.
