Install Duct in Attic, Repair Soffits, Add Insulation

Description

Licensed Contractor estimates sought to install one duct from ceiling to roof inside attic and mark where gooseneck vent should be installed. The gooseneck will be installed by a different roof contractor. Here's the unusual and interesting story: My insurance company hired a roofing company to replace my shingles. There was no outside vent for the kitchen range, so I asked them to install one through the roof. They forgot and roofed over where the vent should have gone. Instead of peeling back shingles to place vent in correct location, they installed the vent on the other side of the house where they had not shingled yet for me to run a long duct sideways. I told them that's unacceptable and to install in the correct location. They said they don't know where that would be. I said simply straight above the stove! They said they are not qualified to do that, but would install it where I thought it should go. I said I'm not an engineer either, but I think it should go there (where I pointed). They installed the second vent, but I notice is also too diagonally rather than straight from the stove top. I complained to the owner of the roofing company who defended his supervisor in charge of my roof, but said they will install a third vent upon me hiring a "mechanical contractor" who would mark where the vent (goose neck) should go as well as run the duct to it. That way when the roofing company comes back out to install the goose neck for the third time, they will not be responsible for a third wrong location. But, that doesn't seem reasonable and customary, does it? Shouldn't they simply put it in the right location? In the meantime, I'll try to hire someone reasonable. Also taking optional estimates to repair minor soffit damage and add insulation in attic. Thanks, Eric (9-4-1) 44one ate nine 8 zeero
