Description

In collaboration with partners on campus and in the community, The Inclusive Excellence, Education and Development Hub (The Hub) hosts a luncheon in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Highlights of the luncheon include a keynote speaker, musical performances and the awarding of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards: SIUE Student Scholarship; Humanitarian Award(s); and Youth Essay, Poetry and Visual Arts Contest (for local youth). Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to apply or nominate for the awards throughout the fall semester. Applications opened on November 4, 2022 and close on December 13, 2022 and details for applications and nominations can be found on The Hub's website. We are pleased to announce our keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson and our theme is Making a Greater Nation. This theme stems from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s call to action at the 1959 address at the Youth March for Integrated Schools: "Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a great nation of your country, and a finer world to live in." (Youth March for Integrated Schools, April 18, 1959). Scholarship applicants and youth award contestants will use this theme for inspiration for their submitted essays, poetry, and visual art pieces. For accommodation questions, contact [email protected] or 618-650-3726 in advance of your participation. For all other questions, please contact [email protected] or 618-650-3180. All proceeds from this event will support the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Endowment. Interested in being a sponsor? Contact Lindy Wagner at [email protected]
