Description
This is an innovative and experiential workshop for anyone interested in gongs, mindfulness, and using sound for health and wellness. We will explore the history & philosophy of gongs. You will learn foundational elements & skills and get hands-on experience playing techniques with a variety of gongs. This immersion workshop will allow you to: use gongs for your own self-care & meditationuse gongs therapeutically for another personplay gongs in a groupdevelop your creative, intuitive and deep listening skillsAll gongs & mallets provided, no need to bring anything. Workshop led by Natalie Brown:Originally from Iowa City, composer, educator, sound therapist, and multi-instrumentalist Natalie Brown has traveled the world performing, recording, and teaching music. She was trained classically, starting violin at age four at the Preucil School of Music, and taught high school orchestra for 14 years in Cedar Rapids, conducting on stages from Carnegie Hall to St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. Natalie graduated from Iowa City West High School and was a 4-Year IHSMA All-State violinist. Natalie received her Bachelor of Music in violin performance from the University of Iowa, music education teacher certification from Coe College, Masters of Music Education from University of Northern Iowa, and Masters in Ethnology and Folklore on a Saltire scholarship from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, focusing on traditional music education in the schools. While in Scotland, she immersed herself in traditional fiddle music, performed in bands, directed an adult traditional music ensemble, and attended as many sessions and folk clubs as possible. Upon her return to Cedar Rapids in 2013, Natalie founded the Eastern Iowa Folk Club which met monthly until 2017. She's played with local bands such as The Trollies, The Mayflies, Mirage, and Craig Erickson (as band and a duo). She's also played shows with Foreigner, 2Cellos, and Mannheim Steamroller. Natalie’s discography is extensive; along with studio work for other musicians, she released her debut solo album, Violin Crossings, in 2010. Natalie’s currently at work with a major recording project, The Medicine Album. She has now has turned her passion for music to the benefits of sound for health and wellness. She is the founder of Sounds Heal Studio, providing one-on-one and group sound therapy sessions and workshops, as well as training, and is lead teacher for the Americas through the International Sound Healing Academy. Her Sounds Heal Podcast explores the use of sound for health and wellness with experts in different fields. The podcast is rated #2 out of the top 25 sound and music therapy podcasts for 2022.
