The Eastside Jewish Commons, Eric Stern Music and Congregation Shir Tikvah present Havdallah Cafe! We warmly invite you to have havdallah with us and then celebrate life, cafe-style with tea, coffee, games and live music! Havdallah cafe in December will be an Ottoman-themed night with live Turkish music to recall our Turkish diaspora: Eric Stern, ud, Chris Henke ney, Leigh Ann Starcevich vocals and Alan Cramatte on traditonal kudum drums. It's not a performance though-rather let the music be the background to a night of conversation, card games and backgammom. Come share the warmth of Havdallah in the winter months! Food okay to bring but no pork or shellfish. We encourage you to bring games: Rummikub! Backgammon! Uno! Interested in learning Mahjong? Morgan Senkal will be available to give a Mahjong primer!
This event is a kickoff to our larger series of Jewish Music in diaspora that will include lectures by Professor Joel Benin, and Cantor Eyal Bitton, as well as a concert later this winter by Morrocan duo Seffarine!
This Havdallah Cafe kick-off is sponsored by Congregation Shir Tikvah and is free and open to the public however please register on the tickets page!
