Description

The Christmas Bird Count is the nation's longest-running community science bird project, and work that you help complete during this count will be used to inform the work of the Audubon Society for the year to come. One of the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy’s seasoned Guadalupe Guides will lead this event, so no birding/citizen science experience is required! Tickets for this event are EXTREMELY LIMITED, please only sign up to attend if you intend on participating for the day of the event. If you can no longer attend after signing up for a spot at this event, please refund your ticket or contact our team to let us know that you do not anticipate attending. This event will run between the hours of 8:00 and 12:00, during which our staff member will lead you on a birding-based walk throughout the park. Event attendees will have the opportunity to collect bird data along the way and learn about our local ecology from an experienced environmental educator. We will be adhering to all State and County Public Health Recommendations and Guidelines pertaining to COVID-19, please check existing health recommendations pertaining to outdoor interactions. In addition, please note that: Volunteers should check the weather the morning of the event and dress accordingly. Even if the day is anticipated to be cold, we recommend sunscreen given the duration of the time that you will be outside. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes! Please bring a full water bottle and a snack (the water fountain will be unavailable for use at this time). Given that this bird count will move throughout different areas of the park, there may not always be a bathroom readily available. Please be sure to use the restroom prior to joining us for the event. Parking is available in front of the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy’s Visitor Center (438 Coleman Avenue, San Jose) and additional parking is available in front of the Rotary PlayGarden (490 Coleman Avenue, San Jose). We will be meeting at the bus loading zone located between the Visitor Center and the Rotary PlayGarden.
