Guest speaker Carnegie Mellon University Pro.Joe William Trotter, Jr. is the Giant Eagle University Professor of History and Social Justice. He is the founder and director of the University's African American Urban Studies and the Economy, and Acting President of the Urban History Association and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Woven throughout the program in addition to spiritual music will be the description of the Gothic window created and installed by Pittsburgh Art & Glass Company in the 1920's and of the the historic pipe organ that dates back before the 1930's.
Dr. King said this "Labor movement was the principal force that transformed misery and despair into hope and progress.. In our glorious fight of civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, as "right to work". ...At the time of his death, Dr. King was planning to march for the sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Carver, said, " The ever-increasing populations and the imperative need for more varied, wholesome foodstuff make it ...necessary to exhaust ever means at our command to fill the empty dinner pail, enrich our soils, bring greater weal to our beautiful south land which is synonymous to a healthy, happy and contented people.
Event is co-sponsored by the Battle of Homestead Foundation and proceeds benefit the Books 4 Kids project of Park Place Ministries. Books will be distributed throughout the summer break. And, a "Thank You" gift to our community teachers (shhh).
