This talk will explore the history of a landmark event in our community – the inaugural Farm Aid concert, held at Memorial Stadium in September 1985. The speaker, Dan Gilbert (Associate Professor of History and Labor & Employment Relations at the University of Illinois), will examine the event’s musical and political significance, and share plans for an upcoming exhibit to be hosted at the Spurlock Museum in 2025, in conjunction with the concert’s 40th anniversary. Community members with memories of Farm Aid are encouraged to attend the lecture, share their perspectives, and help shape plans for the exhibit!
