His legacy will live on forever as his passion for the outdoors has become a reality. Jake's Dock is on the campus of Camp Cole and has offered many first time fishing experiences for many campers during the summers of 2021 and 2022. About Camp Cole Located just outside Columbia, South Carolina, Camp Cole makes its home on a 40-acre campus featuring an abundance of natural beauty and the perfect setting for quality outdoor learning experiences like swimming, fishing, and horseback riding. At the same time, our accessible, inclusive environment offers state-of-the-art amenities in our cabins and dining hall so that everyone who visits has all the comforts of home. Just 15 miles from Prisma Health Children’s Hospital, access to emergency medical care is only minutes away. Plus, our campus’ own Medical Care Facility has leading-edge medical technologies, patient exam rooms, multiple pharmacy windows, and a nurse’s station for checking patients in and out. In addition to our many beautiful buildings, pathways, and recreational features, Camp Cole is a nurturing environment committed to playing a higher, more important role in the healthcare continuum of every camper we meet. As you get to know our campus—from our Courage Cabins and Comfort Corner to Cassels Café and Peter’s Pond—we hope it is evident that Camp Cole exists so that others can shine. Camp Cole is named in memory of Cole Sawyer, an 11-year-old boy who lost his battle to cancer in 2004. During his battle, Cole and his family were inspired by a local camp that catered exclusively to children with cancer. Cole’s experience at the camp made him forget about being sick and remember how to have fun—to laugh, play, and make new friends. When Cole passed away, his mother Stacy vowed to build a unique camp in his memory so that more children living with critical illnesses could experience the joy of an overnight camp the way Cole had. A few years into planning, Stacy unexpectedly passed away. Together, with support from a generous community of friends and followers, we forged ahead with Stacy’s dream. Today, the spirits of Cole and Stacy shine brightly across our beautiful Camp Cole campus.
