As I exited the building and headed into the parking lot a passing figure caught my eye. She was tall and slight, and she didn’t walk as much as she flowed, like the water that travels along with a stream.
As she danced across my path, the moonlight teased the features of her face. She was angular in a way that was elegant, her long hair framing the porcelain of her face. She glanced toward me and met my gaze. She was beautiful! And suddenly, she was you.
Her face became yours. Her body, the same. Every line, every curve. Every feature, and frame. All of it you.
I could see the deep pools that are your eyes, the red of your lips so soft even in the darkness. Your thin body strained against the handle of the driver side door, then disappeared inside. You were gone.
But of course you were never there.
You couldn’t be, you aren’t where I am. And you wouldn’t be, even if you knew where to go.
But for a moment, for a strand in the thin line of time, we were there.
Together.
