Maizy is a 90 pound Great Pyr mix living in Medford Massachusetts seeking a new forever home. Her favorite game is fetching sticks and she loves getting belly rubs. Once she gets to know you she is like a magnet and loves getting as much attention as she can get. She has been taught several commands: sit, down, stay, shake, heel and place. She has been trained to stay in her "place" mat for as much time as needed. She has been crate trained and can stay in her crate overnight for 10 hours without making a peep. She is wary of strangers at first but very quickly warms up to people with treats. She has never had any incidents where she has injured other people. Due to her original upbringing as a stray and due to her breeds, Maizy is very dog reactive, and will bark and lunge towards other dogs if not restrained. She has gotten into a couple of incidents that have resulted in other dogs needing veterinary care due to bite puncture wounds. To manage her reactivity she has undergone extensive training and takes anti-anxiety medication. She has been evaluated by behavioral specialists who have recommended to keep her physically separate from children and that she will likely always have reactivity issues to other dogs. As our family recently has welcomed our second baby daughter, and we have made the very difficult decision to look for a new home for Maizy as we cannot continue to safely keep her and our small children separate in a way that is kind and humane for both Maizy and our children.
