Looking for experienced plumber or handyman

We have a situation in East Pittsburgh that our handyman has not been able to fix. We have a shower that has a shower handle WITHOUT a diverter. The tub spout has always had the diverter button but for some reason, when we close the button, the water still flows out of the tub spout and partially out of the shower. My handyman tried installed a new universal tub spout "Danco 88703" but it still had the same issue. Does anyone know the solution here? Can you come help? Only text me if you are certain how to fix it.
