Description
Me and my mother have unfortunately come to the realization that we don't have the time these birds deserve. My mom works and I recently got a job that has me working for 10 hours a day Monday to Thursday. I started realizing how much of a strain it's putting on my mother and myself as well as the birds. We love them, but we have other responsibilities we can't ignore and they deserve more attention and space for themselves. I don't want to keep them from being happy just because I don't want to let them go. Recently they have gotten cage aggression(this can be helped mostly by letting them out so they aren't attached to the cage so much) so someone who can let them out and have a big perch for them away from the cage is ideal. I want whoever takes them to be aware of their personalities and what to expect. They need a lot more work so please don't expect this to be easy. The black capped conure(Ares) was a rescue. His wings were clipped before we got him and he really needs someone that has the time to train and do flight exercises with him before he gets his flight feathers back. He will gently take treats from you, but he is still pretty shy/nervous. He does not want to get on your arm so he still needs work with socialization. The green cheek(Iris) came from someone else and she loves to fly around and jump on you. She used to bite a lot(and she might still bite because of a new place and new people), but working with her has made her temperament improve a lot. She knows step up on a stick and on your arm, but she is a little iffy about hands so be prepared to get bit if you disrespect her boundaries. I did a lot of target training with her(and Ares) and she's been a lot friendlier than when we first got her. She does love to bite posters, paper, clothes(especially with writing or patches), glasses and hair(watch your ears). As with all birds they love shiny things so be careful. You should really only consider getting them if you truly love birds because their bites do hurt, but when they are sweet to you it makes it all worth it. Training birds is not easy and will not happen over night, but it's worth it when they make progress. They are on a chop mix with pellets and they love apples, bananas, pomegranate seeds, sunflower seeds, and safflower seeds. Iris really likes pumpkin seeds and if you dance with music on in front of her sometimes she will bob her head for a treat(She especially loves Queen and Lady Gaga). These birds are LOUD, but sometimes they will make light kissy noises and cute songs at you. I want to be completely transparent about them because I want them to go to someone that will work with them and love them as much as we have. Ares is about 15 months old, and Iris is 6 months younger than him(about 9 months). They are still young and have puberty to go through. Remember that conures can live many years, so this is a HUGE commitment. They come with 2 cages, a transport cage(for vet trips and such), some food, all their toys and perches. Rehoming fee $700 for all. We were planning on getting them a bigger cage before this, so If you decide to adopt them please think about getting them a flight cage. Send me your number for contact if you are interested. If you have any more questions please let me know.
