Ethan Tyo, Akwesasne Mohawk, is the creator of the AlterNative Project, a mission to immerse, educate, and propagate experiences across the food system from seed-to-seed to build more sustainable, sovereign food communities.
This event is focused on the Three Sisters -corn, beans, and squash- and their significance to Indigneous food culture and Haudenosaunee traditions. During the time of Harvest, communities come together around food to celebrate, feast, and share stories.
Guests will learn about the Three Sisters and why they are refered as such, experience Indigenous seed varieties, and be guided through a nutritious and versatile, whole-food, plant-based recipe curated to the Harvest.
Ethan's work has been featured in over 25 regional and national publications, including a story and recipe with the NY Times. He will be sharing his story, food culture knowledge, and ways to engage with traditional food ways at home while preparing his NYTimes Cooking "Three Sisters Bean Patties"
