Description

In partnership with Austin Water Wildland Conservation, Latino Outdoors- Austin will be doing a three-mile hike through the Bright Leaf Preserve. This area is a part of AWWC's sister program, the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP). Date: Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 9:00am* to 12:00pm. *Arrive 15 mins prior :) Difficulty: Moderate - intended for audiences 8 and up Distance: ~3 miles - 3 hours This hike goes over uneven terrain with a moderate amount of elevation change. It will showcase an area with a history of human use and how the land is slowly changing back to an Ashe Juniper and Oak woodland that is a great habitat for all kinds of wildlife. Expect plenty of stops to discuss the unique history of one of Austin’s largest tracts of undeveloped land. There are two small stream crossings where rocks may be slippery, so bring appropriate foot wear and long pants are encouraged due to the small amount of off-train walking we will be doing. A few reminders about the conservation lands - there is no running water on site and pets and smoking are not permitted. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult AND WAIVERS MUST BE FILLED OUT PRIOR EVENT.
