Description

The Longest Night Run is a community running event in which we come together on the longest night of the year to signal our support and solidarity with one another through times of grief, loss, waiting, and challenge. Too often, grief, waiting, and the times in between the moments of sunlight in our lives can be the loneliest experiences, but the Fleet Feet Monterey Running Community is committing to changing this, to making sure we all know that we are never alone and that we are wanted, needed, sacred, and celebrated. We run to embody resilience, to keep moving forward together through the night with faith that a new dawn will come, and to carry the light and hope with and for one another during the long nights. We are inviting everyone to wear reflective and lighted gear and will provide everyone with a battery-operated candle to carry on the run. The route will be an untimed out-and-back on the Monterey Bay Rec Trail, with runners choosing however far they would like to run or walk (typically between 3-7 miles), and you'll be surrounded with the light of your running partners and friends as you run through the Longest Night in with-ness together! At the store, we will have interactive reflection stations, music, and chances to connect and socialize. The cost is $10 (additional fees to EventBrite not included), with free admission for Fleet Feet Monterey Trailblazers Winter Training Program and current Fleet Feet Monterey Track Club members. Proceeds benefit the Center for Courageous Compassion, a nonprofit that guides survivors, organizations, allies, and activists in creating sustainable and impactful post-traumatic thriving, planetary community, and transformation in ourselves, systems, and society through contemplative earth experiences, connection, adventure, movement, art, and learning.
