Description

Local UNO student Christian Lee will be joined by UNO professors and authors Elizabeth Miki Brina and M.O. Walsh. It'll be a night you won't want to miss! This event is supported in part by Poets & Writers. Christian Lee is a writer born in New Orleans, raised in Baton Rouge. He's a student at the University of New Orleans pursuing an English degree with a concentration in Journalism and is expected to obtain his bachelor's in December (fingers crossed). He has always liked poetry but fell in love with it at the beginning of 2020-- thanks to an Intro to Creative Writing course at UNO. He particularly likes poetic theory. He adopted a kitten in August. Elizabeth Miki Brina is the author of SPEAK, OKINAWA, a memoir published by Knopf in February of 2021 and one of NPR's best books of the year. My work has also appeared in The Sun, River Teeth, Literary Hub, Gulf Coast, and Hyphen Magazine, among others. M.O. Walsh is the author of three books. His first book, a story collection titled The Prospect of Magic, won the Tartt's First Fiction Prize. His first novel, My Sunshine Away, was a New York Times Bestseller and won the Pat Conroy Award for Southern Fiction. His latest novel, The Big Door Prize, was a finalist for the Thurber Award for American Humor and will premiere next year as a 30 minute comedy series on Apple TV, starring Chris O'Dowd and adapted by Emmy winning Writer/Producer David West Read (Schitt's Creek). His fiction and essays have appeared in The Paris Review, Southern Review, Garden and Gun, The Guardian, New York Times and others. He lives in New Orleans with his wife and family, where he directs the Creative Writing Workshop MFA program at the University of New Orleans.
