Holidays are supposed to be happy, but for many people, they are difficult if not painful. The reasons vary. It can be the first holiday without a loved one, without a job, or coping with a serious illness. Holidays can bring up hurts from the past, or emphasize one’s loneliness. Knowing the holiday emphasis on cheerfulness can sharpen anyone’s pain, First Congregational Church is offering a service of Comfort and Hope for people of any faith or no faith. It includes quotes from a variety of religious traditions and from Johnny Cash. And it gives us time to acknowledge our hurts.
