Maybe it's a military strategy

America has more oil and natural gas in the ground than any other country in the world, and second only to China for coal. We are the world's energy powerhouse. The 800 pound gorilla. But we aren't pumping our own oil, in favor of buying oil from every other country willing to sell it. My only conclusion is, we are saving our oil, while burning up everyone else's. It's a great military strategy. In 200+ years, when everyone else is getting low on oil, we will finally make our move and conquer the world, as they struggle just to keep warm.
