How do you remember Troy’s oldest building, the Overfield Tavern Museum? Did you or your child attend preschool at the tavern during its decades as the Overfield School? Did you tour the museum as part of a field trip? Or maybe you’ve heard about the tavern but have never had a chance to visit the two-story log structure built by Benjamin Overfield in 1808.
Whatever your memories, we invite you to experience the Overfield Tavern this December as you never have before. This wildly popular event is back after a three-year hiatus. Our Yuletide Dinners, held this year on December 3-4, are a feast for the senses: a historically inspired menu enjoyed by candlelight in the company of friends and colleagues, gracious servers in authentic early-nineteenth-century clothing, the tavern festooned with holiday greenery, and convivial conversation and merrymaking as live period music plays in the background. Come in from the cold, sit near a crackling fire, and see why these dinners have become the hot ticket in downtown Troy each winter. These dinners sell out each year. You'll be glad that you added our Yuletide Dinners to your list of holiday traditions.
Here is the tentative menu for this year's event:
* Maple squash bisque with rustic rolls
* Quail with boar, wild mushroom, and acorn bread stuffing, served with spiced apple coulis, with braised mixed greens and golden beet au gratin
* Whiskey glazed mulberry and wild plum pudding
Insider tip: While both evenings feature live, period music, Saturday evening's performance will have a bit more zip to it. It makes for a wonderful, merry evening, but if you're seeking a quieter dining experience, opt for the Sunday dinners.
