Rasheem, 12:30 - 2:30pmClass 1: (12:30pm) Class 2: (1:30pm)Black creativity has always been crucial to the development of African-American identity and expression. Art is and has always been part of the way that we tell our stories, heal, archive our histories and express our uniqueness. What has been true historically is still true today. This easy step by step painting workshop combines the appreciation for Black art and for expression. The workshop is designed for the casual stick figure artist and the note doodler and for those who never thought that they could paint. Lead by: @ArtByRasheem Meet your Instructor: Rasheem is a Womanist Artist whose art encourages a critical examination of society and culture through the lens of race, gender, and class. Her work centralizes the lives and experiences of marginalized populations. Rasheem’s work contributes to the growing body of art that is dedicated to the expression and celebration of Black Women & Girls. Her influences are interdisciplinary, varied, and largely come from lived-experiences. There is no separation between her passions, her politics, and her artistic expression. Much like her politics her mediums are a combination of precision and messiness. While her medium is most often pencil, charcoal and various types of pastel, she frequently uses mixed media. In addition to being a visual artist S. Rasheem is a poet. Her poetry can sometime be found within the contours of her visual art expression. The Sacral Chakra: Tuning into Your Creative Center w/ Michelle Stafford, 3:00 - 5:00pmClass 1: (3:00pm)Class 2: (4:00pm)Self-care is a vital part of our ability to stay inspired and be vibrant. Oftentimes, we spend so much time on our craft that we may experience exhaustion and even burnout. This can lead to stiffness in the body and lack of motivation. The Sacral Chakra is the creative center of the body. It is located just below the navel, above the pubis. Let's explore postures that will keep the energy of this area flowing and in balance, so that you can continue to be the amazing artist that you are! Do not worry if you are new to yoga. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged! ***ALL participants will receive a free yoga mat!*** Divayogi, Michelle Stafford Michelle Stafford is a Baltimore native who has been teaching self-care practices for over 18 years. She teaches trauma informed yoga, focusing on observing her students and adapting the postures and sequences to suit their individual and collective needs. Michelle is also a Feldenkrais Practitioner and Usui Reiki Master. Trauma Informed Yoga Initiative In 2018, thanks to the “here to be” grant from lululemon, and community support, I founded the Be More Yoga Community. We are a grassroots initiative that uses yoga and wellness events to heal the effects that chronic stress and trauma have on the mind and body. We are making yoga accessible to people, particularly in the Baltimore African-American Community. Our classes welcome people from all backgrounds, body types, ages, and genders, no matter their sexual orientation or financial status.
