Description
Presented by Arc’teryx Dates: Saturday 02/25 Location: Bishop, CA Cost: We are thrilled to be able to offer a sliding scale of $50-$250 for our one-day clinics thanks to Arc’teryx, our Education Partner. If $50 is cost prohibitive, you are invited to apply for a full scholarship by clicking here. How does sliding-scale pricing work? How much should I pay? It’s up to you how much you pay, but here are some things you can keep in mind when deciding what price is best for you. The average cost of a one day guided course is about $250. All the tuition payments go right back into this program so that we can run more courses and provided more full scholarships! Here’s a loose guideline to help you decide where you might fall on the sliding-scale: It can be hard to pay rent and cover other basic necessities > Apply for a scholarship!I can pay for basic necessities, but I do not have extra income for things like a climbing gym membership > Apply for a scholarship!I can pay for basic necessities and some luxury items like a climbing gym membership > $50-$75I am able to afford or save up for occasional weekend trips and the costs associated with that (rental car, park fees, owning gear, etc) > $75-$150I can afford regular weekend trips and the costs associated with that (rental car, park fees, owning gear, etc) > $150-$200I am financially comfortable and able to help support scholarships for future course participants > $200-$250If $50 is cost prohibitive, you are invited to apply for a full scholarship by clicking here. *Please also consider that income is not the same as wealth. Income is the amount of money you make. Wealth is passed down from generation to generation and usually takes the form of inheritances, land ownership, and/or earning power. We ask that you take into account not only your income but also your wealth when choosing your price point within our sliding scale. Instructor: TBD Course Description: When your partner gets injured, you rappelled past the anchor, or the terrain is simply too hard, having a handful of tricks up your sleeve could make the difference between having a small misadventure or having to call for a rescue. In this clinic, you will learn and practice the skills to get you and your climbing partner to safety when your multi-pitch doesn’t go as planned. This is a skills intensive course and will be focused on developing proficiency with techniques on the ground, then transferring them into a vertical (single-pitch setting). Note: the course involves ground school and hanging in your harness working on skills and includes very little rock climbing! Learning Outcomes: Mastery of ATC guide or Reverso (or other tube-style locking belay devices) - They are useful for SO MUCH MORE than just belaying!Load transfers - belay escape, passing a knot, unweighting a stuck haul bag, etc.Rope ascensionRappels - preventing things from going wrong and what to do when things do go wrong.Hauling systemsPractice scenarios that involve practical application of the above skillsClimber Requirements: Participants must have multi-pitch experience (sport or trad), including the ability to build an equalized anchor, belay from above and set-up a rappel without coaching.
