Description
I am in my early 30’s and am primarily a guitar/bass and synth player, with a little bit of accordion and fiddle experience. I have 15+ years of experience playing in the punk and diy indie scenes and currently play in an emo project. I am looking to form an original band that uses old-time folk music as the basis for making weird, noisy, and experimental music.
I’m hoping to primarily focus on regional folk music from the midwest, as this is under-represented in this genre. Lumberjack songs, great-lakes shanty’s, scandinavian fiddling, polka-billy, etc. I’m also a huge fan of all American folk music, like blues, gospel, country, and bluegrass. I want to take all of these influences and combine them with modern experimental rock to make something fresh sounding.
I am looking for essentially any other musicians who are interested in this project, no matter what you play. Talent and skill are less important than willingness to experiment and open mindedness! I want to basically hit the ground running with whoever is down and hopefully recruit other musicians by playing shows and releasing recordings.
Influences:
Sun City Girls, John Fahey, Incredible String Band, Holy Modal Rounders, Captain Beefheart, Violent Femmes, the compilation “Folksongs of Another America”, the book “Pinery Boys”, Goose Island Ramblers, Daniel Bachman, Sunburned Hand of The Man, Six Organs of Admittance, Slim Cessna, 16 Horsepower
Other genres tags: folk-metal, folk-punk, neo-folk, psychedelic, alt country, cowpunk, drone
