What to bring: - An eye mask (optional) - A water bottle (recommended) About the facilitator: Sam Heller is an emotional wellbeing and mental performance coach who leads Breathwork and meditation events in the Seattle area. He became passionate about Breathwork after it helped him heal a chronic knee issue that had resisted conventional physical therapy for several years. The Breathwork he teaches in group events is based on more intense styles of breathing designed to induce emotional, energetic, and physical catharsis. His style induces the same effects in smaller, easier to integrate doses. His Breathwork and practice are strongly influenced by the work of Czech psychiatrist Dr. Stan Grof, who was instrumental in drawing attention to the healing power of non-ordinary states of consciousness. Another one of Sam's primary influences and teachers is Dr. Reggie Ray. Dr. Ray is a scholar of Tibetan Buddhism, and has developed dozens of meditation and Breathwork techniques that facilitate embodiment and healing. Sam is also a student of several healing traditions of indigenous groups from North and South America. In addition to coaching and leading group events, Sam conducts qualitative and quantitative research on the effects of meditation. In his free time, you can find him playing guitar and piano, hiking, writing, slacklining, and spending time in darkness retreats.
