National experts will provide key strategies and evidenced-based models for reducing violence and building community safety. Panelists include: Marcus McAllister of “McAllister Consultancy and Training” is a nationally known speaker, consultant, and expert in the field of community violence intervention. He is a board member for the Black & Brown Peace Consortium as well as an advisory board member for Everytown for Gun Safety’s Support Fund. MC&T has recently consulted and led the “Fund Peace” movement in 19 cites across the USA spearheading the push for ARPA Dollars and convening with community and government to invest in "CVI” Community Violence Intervention” efforts being done across the country. Also consulting and being chosen as a “SME” Subject Matter Expert” for the Whitehouse 16-jurisdiction Community Violence Intervention Collaborative. (CVIC) Ricardo “Cobe” Williams, an award-winning peacekeeper, community activist, and public speaker, who has trained over one thousand violence interrupters worldwide in mediation and conflict resolution strategies. His work was chronicled in the award-winning film “The Interrupters” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011 and aired on PBS’ FRONTLINE in January, 2012 as a two-hour special. Mr. Williams currently leads Interrupt the Violence(ITV), with previous experience as the Deputy Director for Cure Violence and Community Outreach Director for Noah’s Arc Foundation. He is internationally known for adapting violence prevention models to different environments and has received several awards for his advocacy and meaningful work in the community. Chico Tillmon, PhD, is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Chicago Crime and Education Labs and a violence-prevention expert who serves on the leadership team of the Peace Consortium, the collaborative that runs Fund Peace. The former executive director of the YMCA of Metro Chicago's Youth Safety and Violence Prevention programs, he is a leading national consultant and training and technical assistance provider on violence prevention, reentry, and nonprofits. Formerly incarcerated, Dr. Tillmon came home with a purpose of trying to change his community in a positive way. He works with youth, young adults, and direct service providers in marginalized areas to help them hone their professional skills and improve their work performance, and has worked over a decade in violence prevention, mental health, and reentry. In 2021, Dr. Tillmon was recognized by President Biden for his national violence prevention work and invited to the White House. He is also the recipient of the 2018 Congressional Veterans Braintrust Award and 2017 Ford Men of Courage Award for his work in Chicago’s most vulnerable communities. He was named the Practitioner of the Year in 2016 by the University of Illinois at Chicago Criminology, Law, and Justice Department. Join us for an action-focused discussion for saving lives.
