"Col. Edwin Vinald Mitchell, owner of the hat factory, was nominated by Republican State Convention for Governor's Counselor. His nomination was celebrated in Medfield with the hanging of Chinese lanterns, the displaying of national colors, a concert by the Medfield Brass band and a fireworks display. Mitchell was elected to the Governor's Council in the general election over Democrat Charles Duncklee and Robert Porter of the Prohibition Party."
