Through the years and across cultures, the time when the days grow shorter and the cold grows deeper has been a time for storytelling. After all, we need good stories to get us through the longest nights. In Western Christianity, there is also a tradition of coming together on the longest night of the year to sit in the darkness and share stories of loss and longing from the year.
That’s what we’ll be doing on Wednesday, December 21st at 7 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilmette. We'll come together to sing and pray and hear stories. You will have the opportunity to share your own stories of hurt and grief and fear from this year, and together, perhaps we will find a new story of hope for the year ahead.
Presented by St. John's Lutheran Church of Wilmette, First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette, and St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, this gathering features liturgy and music by The Many, a diverse, inclusive, music and spoken word collective that creates feet-on-the-ground, heart-in-hands, scars-revealed worship experiences to remind us we aren’t alone, God SO loves every one of us, and we all belong here.
