Description

Join us for an evening with Chief Mapu Huni Kuin people. Mapu is a pajé (shaman) from the Brazilian Amazon. On Tuesday, November 29th, he will be sharing a hapè (rapè) ceremony followed by sananga, accompanied by sacred chants and guitar music. Hapè is a traditional Amazonian snuff that is used to heal ailments physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is used to ground but also connect to the spiritual world. Sananga is a medicine in the form of eye drops made of the root and the bark of a shrub from the Amazon. It is also referred to as "ray of light" by the Huni Kuin, it’s a medicine that sharpens the eye sight and its perception, and it removes blockages The sacred chants are healing prayers that Mapu learned from his grandfather and the music is to bring joy and levity into our spirit. This fundraiser will support Mapu’s Huwa Karu Yuxibu Center, which is a social project that serves 40 native families in a total of 210 people (children, adults, and elderly) who are in social vulnerability in the city of Rio Branco - Acre. The project aims to strengthen the cultural identity of the Huni Kuin people. This is a family-friendly event. All children are welcome to join. VENUE: This event will be hosted at Yanapuma. The concept of Yanapuma was founded to support the survival of sublime arts and practical wares from Indigenous artists of South America. Since it’s conception, the vision of Yanapuma has evolved to connect the wider web of artisans who also create with integrity, sustainability and in the sacred way of our ancestors. Presently, we trade with artists from around the world, who hear the calling of their Indigenous roots. Working by hand with natural materials, and the light of the sun...they make art that tell stories. For generations these traditions and techniques have been handed down from the elders... Holding reverence to all of life, our dream is to support our indigenous brothers and sisters, the artists and the tribes who keep sacred the wisdom of the craft. For us at Yanapuma, this is a time to remember that life is about connecting. Through the telling of our individual and collective stories, we are so grateful to be on this mission. It’s a blessing to be surrounded by incredible artisans who have been so gracious to share with us, inspire us. Therefore, we are committed to this path of working intimately with Indigenous peoples and the artisans who are some of our greatest teachers. This event is proudly sponsored by The Boa Foundation
