Description
Begun in 2006 as a fundraiser for the Heritage Commission historical society, the New Year's Eve Grand Ball has grown into a anticipated annual event among historians, Civil War re-enactors, and vintage dance enthusiasts from Ohio and beyond.
Essential to the evening is the look and feel of the mid-19th century, down to the carefully sewn seams on the handmade ballgowns, frock coats, and military attire of the participants. Although encouraged, they aren't required; modern formalwear is acceptable, and all dancers are welcome. (Soldiers are asked not to wear hobnail boots.) Changing rooms are available.
Music for the dance will be performed by the Civil War re-enactors of the 2nd Brigade Calvalry Band, a brass and percussion ensemble. All dances are taught by dance mistress Katie Humphreys; no previous dance experience is necessary. Delicious appetizers, desserts and a toast at midnight keep dancers on their feet!
