Description
WHO is LGBTeach Edcamp for? Educators, mental health professionals, coaches, students, parents, clergy, community members, camp directors… ALL are welcome! WHAT is LGBTeach Edcamp? It is an incredible day of participant-driven personal and professional development, learning, sharing, and networking. Engage in an “unconference” where the topics and schedule unfold organically on the day of the event based on the interests and drive of the participants. To learn more about Edcamp, watch this quick tutorial. WHERE is LGBTeach Edcamp? A HUGE thank you to the Syosset Central School District and the H.B. Thompson Middle School PRIDE/GSA for co-hosting this event at 98 Ann Dr, Syosset, NY 11791. WHEN is LGBTeach Edcamp? Mark your calendars… March 4, 2023 from approximately 8:30am-2:30pm. WHY LGBTeach Edcamp? Because students, staff, and families depend on us! Students who experience LGBTQ-related discrimination and harassment are at greater risk for absenteeism, lower GPAs, lower self-esteem, higher levels of depression, higher risk of substance abuse, higher rates of suicide, etc. You can read more about the negative impact of LGBTQ-related discrimination and harassment as well as the positive impact of GSAs and inclusive curriculum in GLSEN’s 2021 National School Climate Survey. HOW much does it cost to attend? Nothing! The LGBTeach Edcamp is a free day of learning made possible through the generosity of our sponsors. Breakfast and snacks will be served throughout the day. Please reach out to Elisa Waters at [email protected] for more information about becoming a sponsor or making a donation to this event. We look forward to seeing you on March 4th, 2023! P.S. There will be a welcome gift for the first 200 people to arrive on March 4th!
