Are you interested in helping wildlife, but don't have the time to commit to our monthly volunteer requirements? Is your schedule fairly flexible where you can respond to a wildlife rescue/release on various days of the week between 8am and 4pm? Do you know of some secluded areas that would be ideal for releasing some of our wildlife patients back into the wild?
If so, then we are currently recruiting people just like you! ECWR is seeking to find some additional people that can assist us in rescuing, and occasionally releasing, various wildlife in our area. We try to respond to wildlife in distress in Okaloosa & Santa Rosa Counties (sometimes also Escambia County), but we need more hands for us to be successful in our mission! These are some of the cities we get rescue calls from: Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Valparaiso, Shalimar, Crestview, Baker, Holt, Jay, Pace, Milton, Laurel Hill, Mary Esther, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Century, Cantonment, and Pensacola.
Interested members of the public (who are 18 years or older and have their own reliable mode of transportation) can come out and learn more details about what being a rescue volunteer entails. The ~2 hour orientation/class will teach you about ECWR's mission AND how to handle/rescue various species of wildlife that you are likely to encounter during a rescue. There is a $15 fee to cover the cost of a designated ECWR T-shirt when you are out to perform a wildlife rescue. You will have to use your own container to transport the animals to ECWR, but we will go over a few examples of what you can use (ie: cat/dog crates, simple home-made containers out of plastic totes you can buy at Walmart, etc).
