Description
The Laser/Turret Punch Operator has primary responsibility for all set-ups and fabrication runs, and ensures safety, accuracy and timeliness of all Amada Laser/Turret Punch machine jobs. The ideal candidate develops good working relationships with the supervisor, co- workers and other employees as well as working knowledge of the fabrication environment and has ability to respond to change. • Perform all tasks assigned for laser/turret punch setup, operation, and combination jobs (Current machines: ENSIS and Amada EMLK). • Set-up includes but is not limited to: Find proper tooling, check/adjust heights of tooling, set-up/adjust material, locate and upload proper programs from machine control, ensure optimal laser cutting conditions, provide immediate feedback to supervisor on jobs not meeting set-up and/or production standards. • Work with the supervisor and maintenance to ensure finished products are produced in the safest effective manner while maintaining high quality control standards. • Ensure all equipment is properly set-up in a safe manner and that all safety devices are in use. • Perform set-up inspections, first piece inspections, as well as all subsequent inspections as required by Risk Management Framework (RMF) standards. • Monitor equipment and tool wear and request external maintenance when required. • Perform simple machine maintenance and repair as required. • Work with supervisor and programmer to make constant improvements in tooling programs and lean activities. • Install and change out dies as required. Pull punches and dies from turret and sharpen on grinder as needed to eliminate burrs on the final product. • Perform inspection of finished products, and documents results. Deburr parts with file or grinder as needed. • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management. • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures. • Complete and maintain paperwork for parts. • Identify material types and thickness. • Operate forklift as needed. • Maintain production area integrity, cleanliness, and organization according to established standards. • Will be required to cross-train as back-up in other areas of the fabrication department. • Required to have proper and accurate entry into the data collection system (Global Shop). • Other duties as assigned. Benefits: • 401(k) • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Flexible spending account • Health insurance • Health savings account • Life insurance • Paid time off • Vision insurance Qualifications: • Must be able to work independently and meet a planned fabrication schedule. • Responsible for operation, proving programs, operating controls, setting all machine functions, deburring and inspection of parts to assure conformance will be required. • Must be able to work from drawings and sketches, read and understand manuals/specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished products, sequence of operations and set up requirements. • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machines within capabilities. Reports all machine malfunctions to Supervisor. • Communicates with management, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues. • Ability to accurately and completely fill out necessary paperwork according to established standards. • Able to read both metric and standard tape measures, as well as precision hand tools such as squares, protractors, and calipers. • Able to perform basic math in various units of measure using fractions, decimals, and whole units. • Capability of understanding instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and produce a quality product. • Basic computer navigation skills. • Forklift experience needed. • Capable of work standing for long periods of time. • Bending, lifting and pushing up to 50 pounds is required.
