On behalf of the City of Orlando's Office of Sustainability & Resilience, OHA is hosting a Zero Waste Chef Challenge competition event at East End Market to raise awareness, build excitement and showcase sustainable cooking practices demonstrated by local chefs.
Three local chefs will create an original vegetarian dish showcasing seasonal ingredients provided by Mr. Greens Produce. Chefs will have approximately two weeks to select ingredients, create their dish and prepare/cook in their own kitchens.
Chefs will present their dish for three (3) special guests judges and serve sample portions to seventy (70) event guests.
This invite-only event will include sustainability leaders, hospitality leaders, foodie influencers, select members of the media and local government officials.
East End Market is sustainably conscious and has implemented practices that their food entrepreneurs, makers, artisans and chefs participate in everyday. This includes organized efforts such as donating pre-consumption food waste to local farms (who use it for chicken feed) and maintaining a beautiful working garden that tenants source seasonal products from. O-Town Compost will provide responsible waste solutions before & during this event.
The City of Orlando's Office of Sustainability & Resilience proudly received a technical assistance grant from the Natural Resources Defense Council's (NRDC) Food Matters program. This grant supports initiatives that aim to reduce food waste throughout all parts of the food recovery hierarchy (prevention, donation, and composting).
