Description
“Tuna” is a truly wonderful dog. She is probably around 1 1/2 years old, very happy and has an extremely loving, fun personality, super athletic, ball/toy focused, not really destructive and is quite a watchdog. I believe she would be a great companion for someone as special as she is. She sleeps in bed with me, and loves every second of it. She also, really, really loves being home. She is fine alone at home gazing out my front door for a few hours at a time. Every time I come back home, she is a tail-wagging machine, very enthusiastic in letting me know she is glad I am back! I adopted her from the Aurora animal shelter a little over 3 weeks after my dog, literally my best friend, passed the rainbow bridge at age 14. It is, as I discovered too late, too soon for me to make the commitment to bring another dog home for a lifetime. I am putting this ad on Craigslist as it would be unfair to take her back to the shelter, so I won't. I want her to live her best life and i am hopeful to find the person with whom that can happen. She is spade, micro chipped, rabies vaccinated and healthy. She was a little thin when I brought her home. With some good food and exercise, plus good sleep, in only a couple weeks she definitely put on some muscle. She doesn’t look super muscular. When you pick her up, or see her run and jump, you realize that she definitely is. I don’t think she was a dog that suffered abuse. She shows no signs of that. I just believe she was never socialized with animals or with people. She would enjoy both. (although the shelter notes reported that she was found wandering with her dog friend.) She warmed up to me immediately. She apparently does not do that with everyone. If you adopt her please know the following: She is slow to warm up to people. She is not at all aggressive towards new people or dogs. Just takes time for her to trust them. She loves walks but kind of gets nervous when she sees other dogs or people coming her way. Not all all in an aggressive way, she just wants to either B-line in the other direction, or sometimes sit down and observe. It took her a few days to make it all the way around the block in my neighborhood. She loves the park, but same thing when others come her way. ***She is very quickly improving each and every day. She was not 100% housebroken when I got her. She is now, no accidents in over a week. I think with me she learned it is not OK to pee in the house? Not sure that she knew that before. I have a doggy door she figured out in 30 seconds. Like I said, she is smart. She’s fine at night and in the morning, she goes outside and does her thing. She also, not always, can get sick on car rides, (happened twice) but loves car rides. She is super smart. I taught her to shake with both paws in about 10 minutes and to lay down in about 10 more. She already knew how to sit. She is also super curious and still a pup. If you leave stuff out that she is interested in, she will grab it. Not necessarily destroy it. Just walk around with it. I used a harness when walking her. She can and will get out of a collar if she sees another dog. (to run the other way) I hope this helps you to make an informed decision. I also hope that you are her person for life. You both will be truly rewarded. That I can promise. As mentioned earlier, she is a special pup! Let me know if you would like to meet her. It will likely take more than one meeting for you each to be comfortable with one another. Thanks.
