Description

I'm searching for a song book that was used back in the 50s in the Boston Public Schools song book. I've been all over the web but can't find it anywhere. I can't remember its name, but it's a tall green book, about the size of typing paper (I think). There were song arrangements in it that I can't find anywhere on the web such as "Chiribibin" and particularly, this one, sung to the tune of "The Merry Widow Waltz." Sailing, sailing, Swiftly sailing, Comrades row. Darting, Dipping, Seaward slipping, Far a wing. [away?] All through sheen and shadow, Starry sky or blue, Boats obey a faithful helm, And hearts are true. The Merry Widow Waltz is sung on YouTube but the words are completely different. I really would like to get my hands on that book, so if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I would surely appreciate a response to this post. Thanks very much. Secondly, I''d also like to shout out a bit HELLO! to senior citizen out there who used to be a member of the Boston Public Schools Junior Symphony Orchestra back in the 50s and 60s. We used to rehearse every Wednesday after school in the Mary E. Curley School in Jamaica Plain. If you're one of us, please holler back with your name and the year you were there. I was a member in 1958 and 1959 and my sister was in it in '56 and '57. We played violin and performed in the spring concerts at Jordan Hall in Boston during those years and a professional photographer took an 8x10 group picture of us on stage. Does anyone still have their photograph? If so, I'd sure like to have it or a copy of it. If you were a member during that time, I'd love to hear from you via email. Thanks for reading.
