If you have come to know Austin over the years, you have also come to know his trusty side-kick, Paris! Paris is his service dog that he was partnered with in 2014.
If you are new to their journey together, we can give you a quick synopsis:
Austin was born with 2 rare brain malformations that cause refractory (hard to control) epilepsy as well as a significant speech delay and some other disabilities. Historically, Austin has been known to have near-constant seizure activity with his longest lasting seizures occurring overnight. His Mom sought a service dog for him so that he could get seizure alerts in advance, sleep safely in his own bed, and learn to live a bit more independently as he grew up. This is the road that led us to P!
Paris came home to us at just 11 months old and has had a long working career. She has not only helped Austin become more medically stable, but she has also given our family a level of security that we didn't know was in the realm of possibility before her. Paris will be 10 years old next year and we are planning to retire her as our family pet. It's time for her to enjoy a little freedom and pass on the torch to a younger and more motivated pup!
