PRSA CNY members and all interested in our chapter activities are invited to attend our 2022 Annual Meeting on Monday, December 12 at 5:00 pm. Our event, which is sponsored by CenterStateCEO, will take place at Buried Acorn's new location Taproom & Eats (located at the base of University Hill at the corner of Fayette & Irving). We’ll elect the 2023 PRSA CNY Board Members, share highlights of the year’s activities and updates from the SUNY Oswego and Syracuse University PRSSA chapters, and our president, Anja Godlewski-Dykes, and president-elect, Melissa Richards, will discuss plans for 2023. Our meeting this year will feature special guests Kelly Gaggin, Assistant Teaching Professor, Public Relations at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications, and Elle Hanna , Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations at CenterStateCEO. Kelly will provide an annual update on the PRSA Northeast District, while Elle will discuss the current state of economic development in Central New York with a focus on Micron's investment in the region, including: Communications strategy and messaging to land the dealBehind the scenes look at the announcement and message to the communityWhat is the impact of Micron on the community, and what are the challenges in communicating its impact going forward?What are the opportunities for PR professionals?We’ll also have raffles and allow plenty of networking time so you can meet fellow PR and communications peers and make new connections. We'll have food and drinks available. Registration is FREE for PRSA and PRSSA members and $10 for non-members. Meet our speakers Elle Hanna Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations CenterStateCEO Eleanor Hanna (Elle) currently serves as senior director of communications and media relations at CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity (CenterState CEO), based in Syracuse, New York. She was recently named senior vice president of marketing and communications at CenterState CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2023. CenterState CEO is an independent and forward-thinking economic development strategist, business leadership organization and chamber of commerce; dedicated to the success of its members and the prosperity of the region. For more than 14 years, Hanna has been a critical member of CenterState CEO’s communications team. In her role, she creates staff presentations and remarks for public speaking engagements and leads content development for multiple annual publications. She serves as the organization’s spokesperson, and coordinates media coverage developing associated communications including press releases, statements, and media advisories. Additionally, she supports the executive leadership team with strategic guidance, policy, and company messaging for internal communications. In 2022, she was elected one of three council members for the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion committee. Hanna previously worked in undergraduate admissions at Syracuse University supporting recruitment and communications efforts. She started her career in television news at Spectrum News, formerly News10Now, as a reporter, producer and assignment desk manager. Hanna is a graduate of Leadership Greater Syracuse (2017). Accolades include 40 UNDER 40 recognition by CNY BizEvents (2019). Hanna earned a Bachelor of Arts in writing from St. Lawrence University and a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. She and her husband, Jeff, and son, Tenney, live in Fayetteville, New York. Kelly Gaggin Assistant Teaching Professor, Public Relations Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications Kelly Gaggin teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the public relations department and the public diplomacy and global communications joint degree program offered in partnership with the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Kelly has more than two decades of experience in corporate and agency environments encompassing a multitude of industries, including education, health care, technology, defense, nonprofit, tourism/hospitality and financial services/banking. Her professional background and personal interest in world cultures motivate a research agenda rooted in exploring public relations and strategic communications as drivers of cross-cultural understanding and relationship-building with special attention to nonprofit organizations and the populations they serve. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)’s prestigious College of Fellows and earned the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential. She is chair of the PRSA Northeast District board of directors, a member of PRSA’s national Diversity & Inclusion committee and a past president of the Central New York Chapter of PRSA, and remains active in advising students in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Gaggin was recognized with 40 Under Forty distinction for her career accomplishments and commitment to her community. She continues to serve her community through support of outreach initiatives and board memberships as well as lectures and programs sharing her expertise with community organizations. Gaggin earned a Ph.D. in mass communications from the Newhouse School and holds an M.S. in communications management. She completed her undergraduate study in business administration, marketing and economics at Le Moyne College in Syracuse.
