Description
Minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old. Chaperones are required for individuals age 15 and under. Our Historic Orchard Revitalization is well under way! The Conservancy (alongside dedicated community members and volunteers) installed over 70 new fruit trees throughout January and February 2022 composed of species such as apples, Asian Pears, figs, and pomegranates, among others. Tree plantings will continue in Winter of 2023, and we need your help prepping the site for new trees to go in the ground! We are looking for volunteers to help us with the continued revitalization of the Historic Orchard and maintenance of the new fruit trees. Tasks may include weed removal, minor infrastructural repairs, tree pruning, mulching, and other tasks as necessary. We will meet at the picnic area in between the Heritage Rose Garden and the Historic Orchard. We know many community members are eager to help our parks these days, please join us as we practice safe measures of volunteerism. We will be adhering to State and County Public Health recommendations and guidelines pertaining to COVID-19, please check with your local Public Health agency for updated regulations. In addition, please note that: You must bring your own work gloves suitable for working in a garden, as we are unable to provide gloves at this time. Leather gloves are highly recommended! Please bring a full water bottle (the water fountain will be unavailable for use at this time)The restrooms in the Rotary PlayGarden will be available starting at 10:00 AMVolunteers are asked to arrive by 8:45 for a contactless sign-in, workday instructions will follow. We will be proving all necessary tools for this event with the exception of work gloves. The work will begin at 9:00 AM and will run through 11:330 AM, or when it gets too hot to work outside (seasonal). School groups or corporate teams must contact the volunteer coordinator to schedule events. The ticket limit for this event is currently set at 3 tickets per group. Air quality projected to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups", rain, or extreme heat cancels the event.
