Ojai Pixies, a selective Southern California-based girls’ choir, named for Ojai’s signature citrus fruit. The Pixies are a collection of talented young singers, aged 8-17, scouted and led by vocal director Julija Zonic. Their repertoire ranges from classical to pop, and they are especially excited to participate in bringing this holiday music to their home town.
Their recent performances include appearing in Santa Barbara Opera's Tosca, Ojai Performing Arts Theater production of An Evening of Rogers and Hammerstein, and their Libbey Bowl debut for Ojai Day.
The Ojai Pixies are Athena Tickell, Della Wallin, Astrid Vadis, Fiona Dekkers, Miriam Starin, Pearl Johnson, Clementine Walton, Elsa Sterling, Heart Heimbinder, Jojo Keeler, Madeline Mallis, Viviana Giuliani, Audrey Matson, Charlie Keeler, Kampbell Barkley, Poeme Howard, Victoria Delgado. Teen Pixies choir assistants are Kai Maal-King, Kyra Maal-King, Ananya Badami, Lily Giuliani, and Lily Fields.
Musical Director Julija Zonic (pronounced YOO lee ah) is an voice and music educator, vocal director and professional singer. Classically trained in her home country of Croatia, she moved to USA as a war refuge in the 1990s and made Ojai, California her new home. Her love of choral music started in her childhood participating in Zvjezdice (Little Stars,) a Zagreb-based world-class girls choir. Julija was a founding member in 1985, and Zvjezdice continues to perform today. In addition to teaching and directing, Julija performs in the vocal duo Smitty and Julija, recording and performing original music. They are also well- known for their touring Leonard Cohen show, and Abba Dabba Doo!, their ABBA tribute band.
