ELLICOTT CITY, MD — The Howard County Board of Education building was broken into Wednesday evening by a man wearing a black jacket and sunglasses. According to video shared by Howard County Public School System Superintendent Michael Martirano on his personal Facebook page, the man threw rocks at the glass front door in order to break it.
According to the Howard County Police Department, the man entered the building's vestibule but went no further. Nothing was taken from the board's headquarters in Ellicott City. A police report indicated the department is investigating the incident as a commercial burglary. It happened at approximately 7:18 p.m., the police department reported.
"This brazen act of violence occurred to the Howard County Board of Education building yesterday after I left my office," Martirano posted on his Facebook page. "It is an unconscionable act and I am deeply saddened on so many levels at the current state of unrest in our country. If you recognize the person in this video, please call the Howard County Police IMMEDIATELY!"
