shower handle plumbing advice needed

Hi. I've got a Delta Dual function shower handle that came apart and I need to replace it. By dual function - I mean it is 1 handle with 2 dials (one for water pressure and one for temperature control). The outer temp control dial is stripped and just keeps falling off of the main handle so I need to replace the whole shower handle. If it were one handle and only one handle I think I could probably easily swap it out but I've never replaced a dual function handle and I imagine they have different guts. I went to Menards and Home Depot today and neither even had a dual functioning handle in stock. So my question is, can I swap the dual for just a single or am I opening up a bigger job? Would it be better to keep looking for another dual function shower valve or can this be easily done? Thanks for any advice!
