Session 7
Community Organization for Prevention Professionals
P4- Community Organization for Prevention Professionals
Throughout the United States, community coalitions make a significant difference. Local coalitions continue to change the way that communities respond to the threats of behavior health issues. By mobilizing the entire community—parents, teachers, youth, police, health care providers, faith communities, business and civic leaders and others—communities can transform themselves.
This session will discuss the essential differences between coalitions and programs, the importance of collaborative problem-solving and community development.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to articulate the differences between coalitions and programs.
2. Participants will be able to identify the 12 sectors that can create a community coalition
3. Participants will be able to understand the need to create population-level changes to reduce substance misuse.
