Man Posed As State Worker, Burglarized Home: Hamden Police

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of posing as a state worker and later breaking into a home after the owner went to work, according to police. Therman Blount, 53, was arrested Jan. 5 on a warrant and charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. The arrest stems from an incident that happened Aug. 14, 2020, on Laconia Street in Hamden, a little more than a week after Tropical Storm Isaias hit the area. Blount knocked on the front door and spoke with the homeowner just before the burglary, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Blount told the homeowner that he worked for the "state" and needed to inspect the house for storm damage, Smith said. The homeowner then escorted him around the property. The homeowner then left for work and Blount returned and forcibly entered the home, according to Smith. Blount is accused of stealing money and electronic equipment, Smith said.
