Bridgeport Convicted Felon Gets 5 Years On Gun Charges: Feds

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A convicted felon will serve more than 5 years in federal prison after he was connected to guns used in several shootings, according to federal prosecutors. Antonio Johnson, 27, will also serve three years of supervised release. In 2017, DeWayne Joyner, aka "Weezy," and others stole a large quantity of heroin during an armed robbery of a drug stash house on Maplewood Avenue in Bridgeport, prosecutors said in a statement. Joyner fired two rounds from a handgun while chasing a victim of the robbery. The investigation revealed that Johnson had loaned a loaded handgun to Joyner to use during the robbery. A later court-authorized search of Johnson's phone revealed multiple images of guns, several of which Johnson had offered to sell or trade. Johnson's criminal history includes convictions for conspiring to commit robbery and witness tampering. One of the guns identified in an image on Johnson's phone was a stolen Glock pistol. Police recovered the pistol after it was used in a shooting committed by juveniles at the Greene Homes Housing Complex in Bridgeport in January 2019. Johnson was arrested the following month and a search of his home revealed two loaded Springfield XD .40 caliber handguns, one of which had an obliterated serial number, and a Polymer80, Inc., PF90C pistol frame with a Glock-brand slide with no serial number, according to prosecutors. One of the .40 caliber guns was later found to be connected to a drive-by shooting in Bridgeport in 2018. In July 2018, Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
