To assist in the maintenance and operation of the small lab animals (rabbits, chickens, rodents) experimentation/research facilities. Responsible for the performance of routine non-technical tasks. We are looking for a self-driven candidate who will often be working alone at the animal facility. We offer additional performance and attendance incentives. Very flexible hours and days of the week. This is a part time position with a workload typically 15-30 hours a week with possibility to become full time in future. Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Undergraduate preferred.; must have effective communication and service skills. Preferred Education and Experience Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clean animal cages daily and surrounding area Feed animals daily Monitor daily animal health/welfare while performing daily animal health observations. Perform injections on animals Draw blood samples from animals Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality/health of research animals includes daily bottle/cage checks; provide appropriate food/water; cage changing/cleaning. Read and understand the USDA Animal Welfare rules and regulations and ensure the facility is meeting the requirements for the USDA random inspections Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various small animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor. Dispose of animal carcasses following established approved procedures. Observe & report problems involving animal care equipment and environmental support systems. Perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures Maintain accurate animal housing/support area record keeping. Record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines. Clean and sanitize facilities, animal housing units, and ancillary animal care equipment. Possibility to travel to the Frisco, TX Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of the animal facility, including daily sweepings and other housekeeping tasks such as mopping, sanitizing fixtures, bagging and removing trash, etc. Clean and organize cages.
