Rainwater harvesting has multiple benefits including water conservation, the potential to lower municipal water bills, and a chemical-free source of water for flower and vegetable gardens. Along with these advantages, an even bigger benefit is the potential to reduce water pollution of our streams and rivers through the reduction of stormwater runoff. Join Phyllis B. Smith, Natural Resources Agent for N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center to learn about applications, design features, installation, safety considerations, and care and maintenance of rain barrels and small cisterns.
An in-person PowerPoint presentation will be followed by a tour of the Forsyth County Extension Center Demonstration Garden to see how rainwater harvesting is utilized in the herb garden and pawpaw orchard.
Door prizes will include Creek Week tee shirts and a 50-gallon Ivy Rain Barrel. Participants must be pre-registered through Eventbrite, attend the entire event, and be present during the drawing to be eligible for door prizes.
