HBCU Extravganza - Calling All High Schoolers & Families (8th graders too!)

It has been noted that many youth and families within the Michiana (lower Michigan/upper Indiana) area have little knowledge of the excellence that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) bring to academia and to the growth and development of those who attend these prestigous organizations. Many families are not able to visit these wonderful places and get the knowledge for themselves. Well, Ivy Tech Community College along with Mentoring Moments and The Black Excellence Academy have partnered to host a weekend of activities that will bring the HBCUs to Michiana! Yes, while we celebrate the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we will also promote post secondary education offered by HBCUs present during that weekend. Friday, January 13th starts off with a "Hype Night" of dancing, food, raffles, a Black Greek step show, and introdcution of the HBCUs, PBCI (Predominately Black Colleges and Institutions), and other colleges and community resources. Saturday, January 14th will continue with a half day of college admissions counseling, Q&A for parents/guardians and students, guest speakers, and networking. Sunday, January 15th concludes with our illustriuos community banquet; The 8th Annual Dr. King's America's Sunday Supper. The youth will be the highlight of the event and colleges are welcome to be vendors for that event as well. The entire weekend has been planned with excellence in mind for all who attend.
