This October, The Frida Cinema is proud to present Beautiful Monsters: A Guillermo del Toro Film Retrospective and Tribute Art Show, featuring all eleven of the Academy Award-winning director’s feature films; three acclaimed films he produced; and seven films that served to inspire him. The series continues at The Frida Cinema with La Belle et La Bete, Jean Cocteau's 1946 adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
Belle is the epitome of a dutiful daughter - humble, caring, and unselfish. When her father, after losing the family’s fortune, becomes indebted to a monstrous Beast after being caught stealing from his enchanted castle’s grounds, Belle bravely takes his place as the Beast’s prisoner. Every day, the Beast asks Belle to marry him, and every day, she refuses. But as Belle begins to explore the mysterious castle and discover the Beast’s hidden depths, her self-serving siblings envy her seemingly rich life and scheme to kill the Beast.
