Description

Do you collect and sell records? Do you have a niche, wacky, worldly, or freaky record collection? Most importantly, do you LOVE percussion??? WE WANT YOU to sell or loan records to a community pop-up record store at the Wattis Institute of Contemporary Art! Located behind our main gallery space is our event space, which has a bar, books, and resources available to the public. This space also hosts events, talks, film screenings, and other gatherings. For an upcoming exhibition, we are hoping to turn it into a record shop… but one that only stocks percussive music! We imagine that local record shops and independent sellers across the Bay Area could provide a diverse inventory of drum- and percussion-related records. The Wattis could become a communal “pop-up” shop that reflects an eclectic history of percussion, including various genres, generations, and performers. Knowing that percussion, or “percussive music,” is a fairly vague category that could include anything from jazz to techno, we deliberately leave it open to your interpretation. What we propose is that you send a selection of records and that we sell them at the Wattis. We will staff the space, and process sales. You get 100% of the money. When the exhibition closes, we’ll return any unsold records to you. Please email us if you’re interested in participating in this project: meghan.smith @ cca.edu
